The return of senior cricketer Mohammed Shami, was a move that was taken by cricket experts, including former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking about Shami’s impact, Gambhir talks about his experience and skill:
“Look, it’s always good to have a world-class bowler back in the squad with his experience and quality. We all know what he can do with the ball in his hand.”
Shami’s return has made India’s bowling stronger and more reliable. His presence not only strengthens the Indian cricket but also provides valuable mentorship to younger cricketer.

Because of Shami’s past injuries, we need to understand that we need to take it carefully managing his workload. He played two T20s and two ODIs to stay in good shape for the ICC Champions Trophy. The team trusts he will be ready when it’s most important.
“Look, it’s always good to have a world-class bowler back in with his experience and quality. We all know what he can do with the ball in his hand. And it’s always good that Mohammed Shami is back in the team, and obviously, we were trying to manage his workload and his lifestyle. That’s the reason why we played him in two T20s and two ODIs, and hopefully, he’s going to be fresh and ready to go in the Champions Trophy.”
“We wanted another wicket-taking option in the middle“- Gambhir
India wants to create a strong bowling attack that can help to take wickets in the middle overs. Gambhir and the Indian team think that we need a mix of experienced players and young talent(players) that will be key to the future. Gambhir says that we need for wicket-taking options, saying:
“The only reason was because we wanted another wicket-taking option in the middle. We know what bring to the table, and we know they can be a massive threat.”
Shami’s ability to generate movement with the new ball and deliver yorkers at the death makes him an invaluable asset, especially in pressure situations, so that is why Shami needs to manage pressure.
“Supporting young players instead of always criticizing them“- Gambhir
Gambhir says that we need to support young cricketers instead of judging them after every match. He pointed out that even great players need time to establish themselves, he saying:
“The problem is that we keep judging people after every inning. Test cricket is tough cricket and he done. He’s shown that he belongs to that format as well,. If someone can do it in 50-over cricket, why can’t they do it in Test cricket as well?”
He strongly recommended that the cricket team needs to trust and consistently back young talents, that ensure they get enough opportunities to prove themselves.
Gambhir’s words reflect the team’s long-term approach
“What we have is what we have, and we are going to try and go with a very clear mind to win the championship for the country.”
