Gill Stays Till the End, Iyer Doesn’t
Shubman Gill is a “long-term player” who can play for 10-15 years, said cricket expert Sanjay Manjrekar. He believes that Gill’s batting style allows him to stay on the field till the end, unlike Shreyas Iyer.

“Gill plays in a way that even at 60% of his ability, he can score a century. He stays till the end and that’s why he is able to take the team home. This is where he is different from Shreyas Iyer, “Even though he is talented, he does not give the same confidence,” – Manjrekar said.
Gill stayed not out with 101 runs against Bangladesh and helped India chase 229 runs successfully. He played 129 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, and finished the match with 21 balls to spare. |
One of his sixes, a front-foot pull, landed in the upper part of the stadium.
How Did Gill Play?
Gill started his game fast, making 26 runs from 23 balls with four fours and a six. But when Bangladesh used spin, he slowed down. He reached his fifty in 69 balls and his century in 125 balls. This was the slowest hundred by an Indian player since the 2019 World Cup.
Manjrekar appreciated Gill for changing his playing style when needed. He said, ‘Gill has great skill. He can play according to the situation. India’s top-order players can adjust their game. If the conditions are tough, they know how to manage. Gill stays calm and confident while playing.’
What Did Kumble Say About Gill?

Former India spinner Anil Kumble liked the way Gill played against spin. Bangladesh had two spinners, and Gill made 34 runs from 56 balls against them, taking 28 singles and hitting only one boundary.
“Gill usually steps out and attacks off-spinners, but today he played carefully.
“He knew the pitch was difficult, so he decided to stay and finish the game. It was a smart move by him,” Kumble said.
Manjrekar also noted how Gill keeps adding runs to the scoreboard. “He doesn’t play many fancy shots but keeps taking singles. He is a complete batter. He can hit sixes when needed, defend well, and easily keep the strike moving.”
What was special about this match?
India quickly went from 112/1 to 144/4 because they lost wickets. But Gill stayed calm and guided India to victory.
Kumble said, “Gill played very well on a difficult pitch. The ball was not easy to hit, but he still played it well. Most importantly, he stayed till the end and won the game, showing his maturity.”
