Indian cricket legend Gautam Gambhir has shown pride in young batting player Shubman Gill, calling him a key asset of the future of Indian cricket.
Following India’s recent match, Gambhir defended Gill against critics, talking about the importance of backing young players instead of judging them after every inning.
He talked about Gill’s consistency in white-ball formats and expressed confidence in his ability to excel in Test cricket as well.

If someone can do it in 50-over cricket, why can’t you do it in Test cricket as well?
And he’s played some really good innings in Test format as well.
So by judging a young cricketer after every inning, we’re not going to carry Indian cricket forward like that. You have to start putting trust in these young players.
If we keep backing him and keep backing a lot of young cricketers in that dressing room.

Gambhir shows his belief in the young batter’s potential. He pointed out that Gill has delivered consistently in shorter formats and just needs time to adapt to Test cricket fully.
“He’s still a young player, He’s still. 25. He’s got a great future ahead of him and if he’s been consistent in one format. Test cricket is tough cricket and he is done. He’s shown that he belongs to that format as well, and I hope that we are.
Going forward he can actually deliver in that format as well”
Gill has been one of most India’s promising young cricketers in recent years. He has already made a name for himself by hard work in ODIs and T20s, including his scoring a double-century against New Zealand.
However, his Test performances have been not consistent, dealing to some concerns about his ability to succeed in the longer format. Gambhir believes that, such doubts are unnecessary and that Gill simply needs time and experience to refine his-self in this game. So we need to be patient.
Gambhir’s Advice: Support Young Players
if we see the whole interview, we can understand that, Gambhir pointed out the importance of supporting young cricketers rather than putting them under excessive pressure. He pointed out that constant criticism does more harm to young players rather than good and Gambhir says that patience is key when developing future cricketing stars and also support instead of criticism.
“We need to believe in young players instead of criticizing them after every inning. We need to give them the support they need to improve and grow. These young cricketers are the future of Indian cricket, and backing them is the only way to ensure long-term success.”
